There is a big difference between 1/10 of a pound and 1/2 a pound when you are talking boron.

In heavy soils I would put the boron on the surface and away from the seed rows.  Micro nutruients are called that for a good reason, it takes incredibly small amounts to go from beneficial to toxic.

If a person stops and thinks for a second..  measure out 1/2 pound of Boron, hold it in your hand, then look at 1 acre. that 1  1/2 pound needs to be spread equally across 1 acre. Then think about covering that same acre by banding it into a row along side the seed.....

May as well be banding in 1/2 pound of granulated pramitol per acre along side that seed, the effect is going to be the same.

Micro's are beneficial and really needed in many instances but they have to be applied evenly because such small amounts can go from beneficial to detrimental.
