W Texas | I'm not going to claim to be an expert, but I don't think you are going to have a problem with root scald as long as the temperatures are cold. If the alfalfa has broken dormancy, you are more likely to have a problem. Hot temperatures really exacerbate the problem.
Heaving may be a problem with freezing/thawing action? I don't have any experience with it, as I live in Oklahoma and have never seen it or heard of it here.
If you can cut a ditch or get a pump to drain the field, I'm sure it would help. | |
