| I prefer the coulter offset 2 or 3" from the row. Then ALL the N gets covered and is close to the row that needs it. Streaming spreads it out and streaming on 20" centers can put some IN the row to burn seedlings and the next row ten inches from fresh N if planting 30" rows. For the second application side dressing I prefer coulters at mid row, every other row, so I don't prune so many roots. But last time I prepared to do that I waited too long for my low clearance side dressing rig and built a three point rig with more clearance. It wasn't sturdy enough and broke on the first pass, so I replaced the coulters and knives with weighted drops and dribbled the side dress on. Burned streaks on corn leaves too. But it rained in a couple days so the N was saved and the crop was quite good for the amount of total N applied.
