Subject: IA corn question

Rivers, MB
Went on a trip last week from MB to Davenport, IA. Between Iowa City and Davenport on the I80, there were a few fields of corn with row spacing very different than anything I've seen before. It looked like there were 2 rows (maybe 5' apart) and then a big gap (maybe 8'-10') to the next set of rows. Is the corn planted like that or are the missing rows flattened from the combine tires? It seemed too even to be a flattening issue.
