South East , Manitoba , Canada | Gents... Those cattle had oat straw and hay fed as a free choice ration. I also like to feed about 6 lbs of chop to ensure they get a vitamine / mineral. I feed this at a feed bunk this keeps the girls coming back to the barn / corral area ... making it easier to look over the cattle and easy to bring / catch the cows at calving when you want to pull one from the group.
The barn was built at the turn of the century ... about 1915 or so. There is another barn not far from here that was built by the same builder ... it was completed in that same time period.
The bins... I have 2 bins ( 12 ton) that are for feed materials . I have put chop in there but find that it bridges too easily when things get "humid". I find it easier to make 100 bu batches and store it in a pile in the end of the barn. I have several other bins that I store crop in ... so I can drive my self crazy waiting for that "right price". |
