Subject: RE: Be careful - another bin death

Glasgow, Ky

Sad to hear about this.

Is there a database that tracks grain bin deaths through the years here in the US so we can determine the magnitude of the problem and get the details regarding the root cause of each incident?  Have we, as farmers, done all we can to prevent something like this from happening?

Is it a matter of educating people, not having the proper equipment and procedures to prevent this, or both?   Personally, I have taken unnecessary risks entering bins and am sure many of you out there have too.  I really don't want to depend on luck any longer to insure work like this can be done safely.

I know there are a lot of caring and concerned people on this forum.  Anyone out there feel there is anything that can be done?  Is an organized effort to address the problem warranted?
