You might look at some steigers:

http://www.tractorhouse.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5611998 (needs the outer axle mount duals)

Anyway, there might be some other tractors in the same cost range as the 8440. They may not have a pto or 3 point, but would pull the planter ok.
