| Cast a nut with babbit. Maybe start with 3/4" brass tubing. drill 1/2" cross wise. Coat the screw with soot, heat a lump of babbit in an old but clean frying pan and pour it in the brass tubing. Its good if you put some soldering flux on the inside of the brass, but you don't want that touching the screw. When it cools you may need to use a bit of fine grinding compound on the screw to grind the babbit to have adequate working clearance. Pick the least worn part of the screw to help that. You can get babbit from Baom Hydraulics or McMaster-Carr.
