| There are many exceptions, but we at Purple Wave regularly hear from mainline ag dealers that taking trades is a "necessary evil" they'd be happy to do without if possible, which means the "pay cash and sell the replaced machine on your own" approach should be yielding a better net result for the producer in most cases. That said, there are lots of reasons selling a replaced machine on your own can quickly become a drag on time/focus (i.e. broker/jockey phone calls, advertising, post-sale problem resolution, finding buyer takes too long etc.) to the point it is not worth the extra hassle for the producer/seller. Not trying to advertise here, but if the dealer really doesn't want the trade-in and you know it, an auction firm that does online auctions can work with the producer and dealer to get everybody's desired outcome (selling the replaced machine directly to a new end-user while still making the new machine purchase happen) more effectively.
