SCNE | Look at other industries and what they get for the amount of money that we pay for a new combine. Manufacturing, for example, can buy machine tools (CNC machining centers, etc.) that last tens of thousands of hours and generate many times that in income before they need to think about repairing or replacing that particular machine. Those tools run all day, everyday, and sometimes multiple shifts per day and they are built to take it. Ag machinery on the other had needs constant vigilance and care and wears out way to soon for the amount of initial investment we make in a new machine, whether it is a combine, tractor, or whatever. Those machining centers in industry are also much more productive than the older machines 20 or 30 years ago, but they still stand up. I have friends in manufacturing and am astounded by the hours they get on a piece of equipment before they consider replacement and even repair for that matter.
