Subject: notill soybean

How to handle this situation, on some heavy clay soil the top crust get so hard that planter has sometimes difficulty to keep his depth and close furrows especially on combine wheel track . This is soybean no till planting into corntalk. The planter is jd 1790 ccs 16-31 equipped with 400lbs springs. Last year I planted at 4 mph to give it a chance in that kind of soil which represent maybe 10 percent of my farm. It is kind of soil that get hard on top but just under 4-5 inches deep it stay moist. Those field are tile drain.

The jd salesman told me that 1590 or 1990 ccs drill are having more down pressure but I like the planter accuracy of 1790. It seems that row unit are not heavy enough compare to three bushel box from my previous 7200 eight rows.

Will use of great plains turbo till, case ih disc help the planter in hard soil situation as I meet

the planter is now equiped with 13 waves coulter and floating row cleaners

Thank you for your advice
