Subject: Re: Tractors going to park

West Central Iowa
The 8000 series and up JD's and the larger MX and newer CASE-IH tractors have a spring applied park brake. It is a multi disk clutch that requires hydraulic pressure to release it. If the engine dies and you loose hydraulic pressure the park brake is going to apply itself in a second or two and it applies with enough force you are either going to stop instantly if going slow or it will slid the wheels if going faster. The good news is it is very durable. I would guess if it happened often enough it may eventually tear the splines out of the brake disks, but I can't imagine anyone putting up with a problem like this long enough for that to happen.
