There is no way to tell how much residual nitrogen you have or how much you need without soil testing. I would never start farming a new piece of ground without soil testing. It is a cheap way to get an idea of what you have.
If you have the ability to sidedress, do it. Anytime you put 28% over the top you are subjecting it to many losses.
Finally on my own...Fert. reccomendations/opinions?
