Before last wheat harvest, I had to take one of mine off to replace the walker crank bearing located behind it. Removal/replacement wasn't too bad, but there was some stuff that had to come off first.

It could be that the bolt holding the box on the crank is loose (or gone). The other possibility is wear inside the case...but I don't see how you could have much free play there unless the bearings are shot (in which case you would probably have lots of radial play, etc).

We packed ours with corn head grease and installed a zerk in the former hose fitting when we put it back together. Its been OK now for about 300 hours.
