Subject: Re: sidedressing 28%

University research I've seen lately says there is no difference between 30 and 60 inch side dressing. It appears that the corn roots spread that far anyway. Some on this forum have opined that when side dressing on 30" centers that one plugged unit only cuts what a couple rows see by half, but one plugged unit on 60" centers makes two rows get nothing and two more rows get half.

I'm a firm believer in simplicity and fewer units so I side dressed on 60" centers.

For my small operation, I used a 4.5 gpm diaphragm pump at about 5 mph. Set up just like a sprayer, it WAS my sprayer hooked to coulters. Another time or two, I used a squeeze pump from a JD 7000 planter that was ground driven. It was very precise on the average. The electric diaphragm pump was reasonably precise so long as I drove the right speed. There I used 30 psi and orifices to set the flow rate.
