Subject: RE: Xenia Soils, eastern Illinois to western Ohio

Ed, while I do not have any Xenia soils that I farm, I do have Celina. Both these soils are prone to surface compaction and crusting. The crusting has been a frustrating problem in conventional or no-till. I have been steadily going to more and more no-till in hopes of that top inch or two changing to help with the crusting??? I have one or two fields that have improved after 8 or 9 years in a c-sb-w rotation, to the point the ground is starting to mellow. Definitely not a quick change but a change none the less! Any suggestions or experiences you have had I would certainly be open to listening.

Thanks,
Warren
