| Cane is burned to get rid of the leaves, leaves mean more mud, more freight, more fiber/less sugar, easier when raining, etc. The field is on rows so the ruts are not super bad, but the turnrows are horrible even by cane standards. When cultivating, you offbar the shoulders into the middles then work it back and reshape the rows. Cane is a perenial and 3 to 5 crops hopefully come from one planting.
The next most important thing after this, is to run the field drains to let water outwhen it rains. Keep in mind this is a scheduled quota harvest, you have no choice but to harvest regardless of the conditions. This not for the faint of heart. | |
