| How do you guys price manure?
I would like to determine the fair market price of liquid hog manure containing 31 lbs of N, 19 lbs of P2O5 and 21 lbs of K2O.
I assumed the following prices for commercial fertilizer:
anhydrous = $500/ton
DAP = $400/ton
MOP = $490
and calculated the following nutrient values (assuming the DAP N is equal in value to anhydrous N):
30.5 cents per lb of N
33.9 cents per lb of P2O5
40.8 cents per lb of K20
31*0.305 + 19*0.339 + 21*0.408 = $24.5 / 1000 gallons
The 2009 IA Custom Rates Survey (http://www.extension.iastate.edu/publications/FM1698.pdf)
lists $11.10 as the average application cost per 1000 gallons for liquid manure.
The manure will need to be hauled about 2 miles. We will use our tractor and the hog farmer's honey wagon.
Historically, we have paid $10 per 1000 gallons but the hog farmer wants to raise the price to $20 per 1000 gallons.
What do you think?
