Pioneer does not pay Monsanto a royalty per bag on their seed sales. They paid Monsanto an upfront cost and their seed & tech sales go back to Pioneer, Monsanto just sold them the rights to market in the pioneer seed. Syngenta is the same. Merry Christmas!
