Subject: How to be an energy miser

Hello folks,

Do any of you recall the article "How to be an Energy Miser" from the 2/15/08 issue of Corn and Soybean Digest?

Here is a link and the first few sentences:
http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/ag-issues/energy-saving-tips-0215/

Which part of your operation uses the most energy?
Many growers would say tillage trips are their farm's energy hog. Conventional tillage requires about 4.5 gal./acre more than no-till or strip-till, but surprisingly it's not the largest energy user.
Crop drying is actually the energy villain in Corn Belt operations, according to a study of 50 Iowa growers.

I recently obtained a copy of the energy audit spreadsheet used for the IA study and the students in my CONS 305 class are currently using it to analyze their farms.

If any of you are interested in trying it out, shoot me an email and I will send you a copy.

some of you that are involved with IA Soybean Association projects have probably already tried it.

Any comments?
