Subject: RE: Hybrid Alfalfa

Central NE
I am growing some Hybriforce 400. I sold dairyland seed for 13 years. They had a top class alfalfa research unit. As of this spring I no longer sell for them because they sold out to DOW chemical last august and I couldn't get literature or pricing (or seed-rationing) Then when I finally got pricing (in late march) they had jacked up the prices so sky high, It was just to much. When I used to sell it for 4.25/lb 18 months ago I belived it was worth the cost. Now the numbers are harder to swallow, but still better than $250/bag corn.

One 58 acre non-irrigated field this year grew over 500 4x4x8 bales from three cuttings. 1st cutting (last field cut) 258 4x4x8 bales. 2nd cutting 146 4x4x8 bales. 3rd cutting 104 4x4x8 bales. This was west of Kearney, NE. Usually I take five cuts, but this year I was lucky to get 4 on most.
1st cutting was good feelot hay, 2nd was horse hay, 3rd was dairy hay.

Nothing wrong with Magnum V
The first cutting Magnum V was some of the most profitable hay I had this year. 2+ ton, 235 rfv sold right out of the field at last years prices :>)
