I think you may be making a mountain out of a mole hill on this ammonia/nitrate thing.

Unfortunately, I got 5 months to think about it!
Edit: I probably am making too big a deal out of it. However, keep in mind one can grow a bumper crop of beautiful potatoes that are all hollow. It is a real bummer, and I'd like to avoid it.
Hollow heart apparently has a lot to do with N, Ca, B, and water, although I don't think anyone knows exactly what causes it.
