Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan
I too thought of utilizing different tile for different soil types. Our problem is that we typically run into different soil types in each trip down the field. We don't have any fields that are essentially all one soil type. So that's why we have decided to go with knife-cut tile. The knife-cut tile are working very well that we installed this year. I've been impressed with how our newly tiled fields have been draining after these fall rains. (generally forty foot spacings, tiled ourselves with a Gold Digger plow, utilizing Intelliscope grade control) But I realize that is not saying much. The real question is; how will they be working ten years from now, and twenty, and thirty and forty years from now? Hopefully, forty years from now we'll be saying we made the right decision. Time will tell.

Back to your question; I'm not sure there is an absolutely perfect and correct answer to this question of what type of tile to install......at least not on our farm.

good luck with your decision, gordon
