Subject: RE: tractor exhaust as fertilizer

SW Manitoba.
We had one of the exhaust units on our airdrill for 2 years, and we saw mixed results. At times we thought it was doing what we wanted, and times we thought we were wasting our time. Our yields didn't seem to drop any by using the unit. We kept our P and S at the same level as we would usually would, and we lowered the N we applied as that is what the exhaust is supposed to do. Our soil tests are now calling for more N than than usual I think. I don' think it is a bad thing, if you listen to the sales pitch and do your research it does make sense in theory, but I do believe you have to be prepared to do some top dessing (foliar or dribble band) during the growing season.
