Don,

First of all let me welcome you to the forum. There is a lot to be learned here for most people. The ability to get a yield boost from 15" soybeans usually has more to do with variety selection, than the mere move to 15" rows. I was involved in some research back in the late 70's that addressed that specific issue. Most varieties got better with the move from 30" rows to 15" rows, but the variety differences is what really paid the bills. Some responded, but it wouldn't have paid to invest in the equipment to do so. Others responded very positively. As quickly as the varieties change now days I'm not sure it is possible to keep track of that issue over a period of time. I suggest that if someone is buying the equipment anyway, then the move to plant into 15" rows would be a positive one for many people. In Ontario the ground coverage early might be even more positive than in the northern US.
