[Dow Jones] - Private firm Lanworth, which projects the size of US crops using computer simulations and satellite imagery,
says the USDA is overestimating the size of both the corn and soybean crops. The firm, which has been well below most trade expectations in its estimates for the crops this season, says that with only a quarter of the corn and half the soybeans harvested at
the point of the recent USDA survey, "yields observed so far are biased high" as they have been less affected by freezing weather
or delayed harvest. The firm says that cool, wet conditions which promoted growth early in the season ultimately hindered crop
development. The USDA is likely to lower the estimates in January,Lanworth says.
