Owner manuel will help, to tilt the cutterbar up. Just turn out the adjusting bolts that are right in front of/under the round frame tube on the back side of the head. This will pitch up the guards. With this old of head you might need the WD-40 can to help with the adjusting bolts.
There are maybe 6-8 bolts across the width of the head to adjust. You have to first lossen a locking nut then turn the bolt out to raise the guards then tighten back up the locking nut.

Pitching the guards up will help, trust me.
