southern MN | Was sitting on the dump pit at the elevator 2 nites ago, waiting for the drier to catch up, the head grain person showed up, had a chat with the flunky & him. (Kinda like the info from the flunky, put more stock in his views and so my reference is not derogatory, I associate with flunkies more than folk with titles.....)
Sounds like average corn moisture coming in is 29-30%, with a little at 24% and a little at 36%.
Head guy said he knows it is bad for farmers, but the elevator needs a bit of rain every 2 days for the driers to keep up. They have about 1/4 of the beans in nothing was 13%, most 15-17, and they all need drying, just air won't do it & nothing dry to blend with. Fortunatly the beans came in cold, so he thinks they will keep 2 weeks with just air until something can be done. Think they have about 5 elevator locations around the area.
They had a big demand for corn, folks who typically buy in summer/ early fall when they always run short decided to buy corn now & wait for their corn to dry in the field, so coop ran a special of 3 cent drying instead of 4.5 for a short time. Demand was pretty sharp for October, we used up or shipped out 2008 crop, 2009 crop is slow coming in.
