ckansas - 10/21/2009 19:08 What I don't get is making about 3 rounds all the way around a field next to neighboring fields and letting the rest go. There is still volunteer there and the wheat curl mites can travel over 1/2 mile so what's the point. Actually, the buffer is reasonably effective. While the mites *can* move 0.5 mile on a wind, the large majority only go a couple feet. That is why there are 'swaths' that get infected across a field while other areas are okay. Only when they get an early start do they cover the entire field, and even then, the areas of intitial infection will be the worst and fanning out from there. |
