Loss of GPS sat coverage is due to not enough GPS satellite signals for RTK. There is no sunspot effect yet. No one has to pay Russia to use GLONASS. It's the same as GPS - free to anyone with a receiver.
Yes, GLONASS will make a difference in productivity. You will not be shut down at all during the day. GLONASS doesn't improve accuracy and won't help with sunspots.
Here in the 609xx (NE IL) zip code we've been experiencing some intermittent gps reception mid-day the past few days. This is on JD gps receivers. I assume the same problems affect Trimble etal? JD supplied charts show that it's predictable due to lack of satellite coverage. Maybe it's been going on longer than a few days, but due to weather, that's all we've been able to do field work. My questions Just what causes that loss of satellite coverages? Are they actually shutting down transmission? Or-is it a sunspot thing affecting signal coverage? or what? Also-if JD were to allow Glonass reception, would that 100% cure the problem 100% of the time? Does someone have to pay the Russians to utilize their signals? Thanks |
