Subject: Re: Shearing bolt on JD 9650 unloading auger

Ethridge, TN
I have seen several things cause this problem. One has already been mentioned, the auger flighting folding down. Another is, there is a slug/gudgeon in the bottom of the vertical lift auger. I have seen this break loose, and it allows the auger to drop. It'll ride on the casting, and keep turning, but it will shortly wear the splines off the gearbox in the elbow, cause there won't be much left driving it. There is also that gearbox, as you can loose a bearing in it. I've seen bearings go out in the lower gearbox, there is a lower and an upper, and generally, it ends up being the upper bearing. Have also seen the splines wear and slip on the horizontal auger. This will let it get out of time, and you can end up locking the flights together. About have to just start searching, checking each point individually.
