Don't oil that drive chain at all. Use a dry graphite chain lube and you will be much better off. The combination of the oil and dust and you are lapping in the chain more than lubing it up.

Your machines with the elevators the way you describe are made to go down the road without tipping the elevator back. I think they made them that way so they could haul them easier, not sure but I think that is what Bob told me once. On ours the elevator tips back, when being used it is 14'4" and going down the road through town I have taken down a cable TV wire or two before, never stopped since they are supposed to be 14'6".
