Subject: RE: Raven Viper: Speed input

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The Viper must get speed via the three pin conxall connector that is common to all Raven products.

You have several choices. If you have a cable from the Outback that works with a Raven 460, it will work fine with the Viper.

The three wires in the Raven conxall connector are Power Out (5V), Ground and Signal In. This would allow Raven's wheel sensor to operate properly. The power out is not needed with the Outback so only two wires (Ground and signal) are used.

Other devices that extract the speed from the NEMA string could also be used.

At a recent school I asked why it is necessary to input speed via the three pin connector since the Viper is getting GPS info which could contain this speed information. The presenters at the school tended to agree with me but they had no answer other than "that's the way it is".

Other devices such as Ag Leader get the speed information from GPS and don't require the seemingly redundant speed source.
