Subject: Re: drying beans

Carman, Manitoba, Canada

Hi Fastline

I'm in southern manitoba and we have had some snow all around us so did some beans today that are testing 18 +% moisture. There is some green one's but the sample look's good off the combine. I started drying tonite with a AB 12 farm fan, was told by the dealer it would work similer to wheat 190 high and 160 low, I dryied the first batch 50 minute's cooking and 15 minute's cooling, it's freezing here tonite. Mayby 40% of the bean's have a cracked seed coat after drying. Tried a second batch at 160 high and 150 low, still have cracked seed coat's but less of them. I'm looking for a way to stop the crack's. Couple neighbour's are also combining today, they have bigger farm fan's and are dropping hot, then cooling later, they will have some finished tomorrow so will see if they are having the same problem. I still have more to combine but had snow on them yesterday so they were still wet tonite.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you, Edwin
