roaming | Garmin most likely has some sort of configuration utility available on their website, which will allow you to connect to the receiver to adjust settings, etc. If not, about the only thing you can do is use HyperTerminal (Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal) to see if the receiver is already putting out data. That's kind of a crapshoot, and won't necessarily tell you whether the receiver is functional or not, because the receiver settings might not match the HT settings, and thus you might not see any data in HT even though the receiver is functional.
The 9-pin serial port is most likely COM1 on your computer. You can check this by right-clicking on My Computer, then choose Properties. Click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button. Look through the device list until you find PORTS. Click the + sign and see if the Communications Port is COM1, COM2, etc. You'll need to know this to use HyperTerminal. If you need more help with HT, let us know. | |
