Awful as in how??? they will sometimes turn brown.....are they smashed or broken into many pieces???? I freeze them and they do fine.... I thaw them in the fridge though and you may have to add some extra cornstarch or flour to thicken. I do not vacuum seal though.. They are not the best just to eat but cook up fine in pies and peach upside down cake.
