Subject: Rye Planted into Greener cornstalks

We planted Rye for silage into some slightly green cornstalks the day after we snapped the field for feed, this is what the rye looks like as of today, wondering why we can see each row of where the corn stalk was? maybe too much trash next to the stalk and the rye didn't germinate enough? Thoughts? Was snapped with a chopping corn head if that matters.
