I need to get rid of my standard rain gauge and get me one that is called an other.
Look up an outfit called CoCoRaHS (Copmmunity Collaborative Rain and Hail and Snow network).
It won't be too much a pain to even sign up -0 - - you just need to read your gauge once a day.
Their gauge is one where you can get up to 11" of rain before you run out of measuring room.
(Its a 4" dia gauge and its capable of measuring to hundredths of an inch.)
I've been a member for a number of years - - - its worth it for rain measuring. (snow is hugely problematic here so that part I don't bother with!)
