Only in a small town rural newspaper would the front page carry a story that one of the local town governments raised the bounty on gophers from $4.00 to $4.50. The rationale was everything else was going up in price like gopher traps, etc so they voted at their annual meeting for the raise.
For those who do not know about pocket gophers that we have, they burrow underground making tunnels with mounds of dirt above ground. They are like a huge rat with sharp teeth, aggressive front paws for digging,and blind. The piles of dirt are hard on sickles, knives in choppers, and predators like foxes and badgers that dig them out leaving large holes that tractor front tires can fall into. | |
