We were very dry and everyone started planting April 9 thru the 17th, so 95% of the corn and 50% of beans got done then. Been very wet since with spotty big rains. 2.5 to 3.5" over several rain events. Most fields are very wet and predicting 2-3"more in next three days. Corn is coming up good and beans are emerging very slow. Some fields will need some holes fixed. We are done but have 1.5 days of custom beans to plant.
interesting how many people are already done planting and it isn't even May yet, is that considered under utilization of capital to have all that planting equipment parked for another month of optimal planting time when it could be covering acres and there is a lot of slush money in commodity corn and soybean production or are they smart operators who have over invested in assets to make speedy work of the manual labor of commodity production so they can get back to the desk and work on marketing and land procurement or haven't figured out how to delegate the steering wheel jobs on the operation? Seems there is still a lot of ripe opportunity for industry consolidation that will probably take another generational wealth transfer to realize yet.
