Subject: Ball bearings for ancient Howard pto tiller.

Madison Co. Virginia
The drive end measures 5" OD by 2.25" ID. I don't know the width, since I'm waiting to destroy the bearing until I know there's a replacement available.

The non-drive end measures 4" OD by 1.630 (1-5/8"?) ID, and is 0.95" wide.

I can't even find these sizes, let alone find affordable options. I'm not having any luck ferreting up a Howard parts manual either. I can't find a model number anywhere on this tiller, except that it's a Selectatilth model.

I was thinking I would just buy sealed bearings, and discard the inner seal so grease and oil can get to the bearing. But surely the remaining seal wouldn't be long-lived in the dirt, would it? How were these things originally sealed?
