If you just stretch a wire from one end to the other pretty tight then just pick it up off the ground every twenty yards or so on the knoll and drop it it will find the straight line on its own very close.
This is how we did a hilly pasture when I was a kid. It worked pretty well, and if we were off it wasn't enough to notice.
