| This may not be the mainstream answer, but if ground is fit to plant, you should be planting.
To me this is a risk management tool. There is a certain amount of risk in planting into cool soil, for sure. But there is also a large about of risk to "not" planting. Now not to say that you will not get a latter window, but some years could be several weeks between windows.
For myself my goal is to plant soybeans early as possible. From what I have seen, is that each day of soybeans is worth about .3 Bushels per day. If I wait 10 days, that is 3 bushels of soybeans. 3 x $10 = $30 acre in profit. To me, the biggest risk is missing out on this. But I cannot do this until corn is in the ground.
I put corn in the ground last week. I feel 95% confident it will come up fine. I planted at 34,000 Plants per acre, and can loose up to 10% and still have 100% yield potential. To me this risk / reward is worth it. If the ground is fit, plant.
