Subject: RE: Kivi pekka 7

Glenwood, Mn
Two guys run pekka here. They seem to get along fine. As with any ground engaging equipment they are expensive to run and maintain. I think custom hire rate is $250/hr.

I bought an old Haybuster 10 ft and run it on a 65 hp tractor. I still figure my cost to operate is around $55/hr without operator. They can certainly pick faster than me. So sometimes bigger is better?

I’ve had a migrant crew the last week. Cost per acre is actually slightly less than custom hire but clearly takes more time. Custom crew picks anything over a lemon. Cost here is around $100/acre to destone by hand in the bad stuff and around $45 in average ground. 20 ft Pekka can do around 3 acres per hour with dumping so about $80/acre.

I’ve never heard of the elho. I’ll have to check them out.
