For something that gets used as often as it does on a farm, knowing the formulas for volume is kind of a requirement to be a farmer, IMHO.
Volume of a cylinder is Pi Rsquared H
A cone is 1/3 the volume of the cylinder. What's left after the cone is removed is therefor 2/3 of the cylinder.
Pi x R squared x H X .8 = bushels
The radius of a 36' bin is 18'. The height of the cone is usually around 7.5' in that size bin.
One cubic foot hold about .8 bushels grain.
So:
3.14159 x 18 x 18 x 7.5 x .8 = 6107 bu level
6107 / 3 = 2035bu removed from cone
6107 / 3 x 2 = 4071bu remaining after cone removed | |
