NW IL | If you mean programs that pay you based on calculated carbon score, it can be hard to compare. I know Indigo Ag had a vestments period before they'd pay you, and it was spread over 5 years. Not easy to jump in and out of.
I did a couple fields just to see what it was like. The amount of records I needed to enter was almost as bad as what I need to do for my organic certification.
I do full tillage about 2 out of 3 years. Organic, so cultivating multiple times, but using manures. Had an extended crop rotation, and cover crop. The payout for 7 years of records after 2 vested seasons was only about $2/ac.
I'm glad I only did a couple fields. I've got over 40 total if I wanted to go all in, but it's way too much work per field for our 5-20ac fields.
