NW Illinois | I would agree with you. I did a random test on one grid point this spring. Pulled regular grid test in small area, turned around in same area and pulled a second. Cut the top 3” of soil off and sent the rest to the lab on second test. The second sample was almost exactly half the amount of fertilizer compared to what the whole 6” had.
One could argue all day long about stratification, and the need to remedy it, but the nutrients where there.
