Someone had to have paid the taxes on them or you wouldn't have them. We get some minerals back on our land when the mineral owners don't pay the taxes for three years. The land owner gets first chance at the minerals.
Colorado got lots of things right in the past. I've bought a few batches of minerals that way too.
