I think clicking onto the "Posts active today" is a good (better) choice than your proposal. My reason is some of the posts on here are no interest to me, so I'm happy they don't keep coming to the top. People seem to get a real kick out of "bumping" their favorite dumb or offensive post to the top on other forums. I'll vote to leave it "as is" here.
