A good fairly newish car I would only do touchless if I wanted to keep it looking good.  A 10-15 year old daily driver that never gets waxed or scrubbed by hand It wouldn't bother me to use it.  Over time they cause swirls, which can be corrected, and if something would get picked up and caught in there such as a rock or something off someone's car it could do some major paint damage in a hurry.  Normally I just use the touchless, or spray it off myself and then try to handwash a few times a year when I get time to get them real clean then clay/polish/wax.
